Mount Batur is located within the Bangli region of Bali’s island. Bali, Indonesia. Since the beginning of time, tourists have been trekking to the top of Mount Batur (a volcano in Bali) to view sunrises over the nearby volcanoes Mount Agung and Mount Agung It’s easy to understand the reason!

If you manage to get up early for the trek to the summit, you’ll get to enjoy an exciting trek in the dark, with an incredible sunrise waiting for you at the top. Last week I climbed the mountain for the first time , and was unsure of what I was going to experience.

In this article , I discuss the 6 things you should be aware of prior to Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking, including what you should bring along and how to prepare.

How strenuous is the hike up the mountain of Batur VOLCANO in Bali?

The first thing to consider is how difficult is the climb? It’s for most the most crucial question that requires being answered. If you’re active and are able to perform a good amount of cardiovascular fitness, you should not think that the hike is too challenging.

It is common to read on websites, travel channels as well as blogs, that this is simple to run through it! But that’s not accurate.

The hike takes about 2 hours (for the most part, it’s quicker when you require fewer breaks) Be aware that you are climbing a mountain that is 1,717 meters or 5,633 feet above the sea level.

Personally, I found the hike to be quite difficult , and not an easy walk that some have described. In fairness I don’t do very often in the gym and when I go to the gym, it’s usually to take a relaxing Pilates class!

When it comes to knowing how challenging the hike is, it is important to pay attention at your own fitness level, not someone other’s. Your body is the best judge and are in a position to know early on whether you’re likely to find the hike difficult.

There is no need to train in advance (it’s an easy hike of two hours, not an ultramarathon! ) As long as you’re taking breaks as you need to I believe that anyone can climb to the highest point.

WHAT TO WEAR TO GO HIKING THE VOLCANO

The climate and temperature will differ from night to the next , and it also shifts throughout the hike. I suggest wear comfy shorts or shorts, which is something you typically wear for working out.

2.) WHAT SHOULD I wear to Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking Hike

The climate and temperature will differ from night to the next , and will change throughout the hike. I suggest wear comfy shorts or shorts, which is something you typically wear for working out.

The most essential item to put on is the right sneakers or walking shoes! I watched many women in silly-looking boots slip as they attempted to ascend the final section of the hike , where the gravel and rocks are loose.

Wear a hoodie or sweater to stay warm during the hike, most likely in the beginning and at the top. Throughout the hike, you’ll likely take off the outer layers.

I would also recommend bringing an rain jacket particularly if you are out hiking during the rainy season or close to it because you could get rained on!

WHAT DO YOU BRING FOR MOUNT BATUR

Take a small backpack and take along your waterproof gear along with extra water, and some snacks. I would also recommend purchasing an early headlamp.

You’re given a flashlight by your guide, however using an tiny headlamp helped make the trek more enjoyable, particularly towards the end of the hike, to have your hands free to climb over the uneven path.

Your guide is likely to provide a few small water bottles for you to use however I believe it’s better to bring a few extra as well. Bring your own too. On the way up, your guide will provide snacks, possibly some basic eggs that have been boiled.

If you are likely to be hungry take some biscuits or sandwiches. We took these along with us however, we did not eat until we had a break on our return journey back towards Seminyak.

CAMERA EQUIPMENT

Bringing cameras is essential! I currently have the Nikon D850 as well as an Sigma Art Lens however any good DSLR can be used to capture the sunrise.

The sunrise at the top of Mount Batur is truly stunning and you should bring along the cameras you have, Gopros smartphones, or any other device of you prefer for photography.

If you’re not a professional, I’d suggest leaving your tripod in the garage. While you can capture a stunning time-lapse but it’s a lot of fun at the top and transporting it up the mountain is a hassle.

If you are really looking for an tripod, I’d suggest using a smaller , more flexible tripod rather than a big one. However, I would suggest you take your cameras off and take in the view as the sun rises after taking some photos!
